Eastbourne

The MacFarlanes lent us their wheels this weekend. Being zany and spontaneous, we resolved to drive to the Welsh coast on Friday night. Common sense overtook us and we settled for Eastbourne on the south east coast, being a slightly more manageable distance for a one day holiday. Eastbourne is the slightly richer distainful cousin of Bournemouth. We stayed in the Cavendish hotel, a name New Zealand readers will probably associate with carpet, which was reasonably good (£90 approx per night). Definite highlight was "Beachy Head", a suitably silly English name for something that is actually rather grand; a spacious reserve running along the chalky cliffs (see above) west of the town, culminating, as these things always do, in a deserted lighthouse.
